黄炎培,江苏省川沙县(今属上海)城厢镇人,是中国民主建国会的主要发起人之一。著名的社会活动家和教育家。他一生中有过两次婚恋。第一次是按照“三媒六证,明媒正娶”的传统方式和王纠思小姐成婚;第二次则是和女大学生姚维钧一见钟情,自由结合。黄炎培父母早逝,为维持生计,他不满二十岁就去南汇县三灶乡当私塾先生。黄炎培的祖母觉得孙子已经老大不小了,应该早日成家才是,遂托人为黄炎培四处求婚。然而,由于他家境贫寒,求婚很不顺利。
