葡萄牙在欧洲的西南角,位于伊比利亚半岛的西部,占半岛面积六分之一,东、北和西班牙接壤,西、南濒临大西洋。它的面积约九万二千方公里(不包括殖民地),人口八百六十二万一千人(1953年)。葡萄牙境内大部分是丘陵平原和不高的山地,杜罗河、德古斯河、瓜的亚纳河横贯其间。首都里斯本(人口约七十九万)就位于德古斯河口,是欧洲到南美洲或西非洲途中的最末一个大港;葡萄牙的第二大城俄伯尔多,位于杜罗河口。
At the southwestern corner of Europe, Portugal is located in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula, occupying one sixth of the peninsula, bordering on the east and the north on the other side of Spain, and on the west and on the south facing the Atlantic Ocean. It covers an area of about 92,000 km (excluding the colony) and has a population of 8,221,000 (1953). Most of the territory of Portugal is a hilly plains and not high mountain, Douro River, River Teguas, Guayana River runs through. The capital, Lisbon, with a population of about 700,000, is located at the mouth of the Teguise, the last big port on the way from Europe to South America or West Africa; Portugal’s second largest city, Oberdo, is located at the mouth of the Douro River.
