I. Introduction The self-reinforcement process is widely used to improve the bearing capacity of thick-walled cylinders. After the self-reinforced thick-walled cylinders, favorable residual compressive stress is retained on the inner wall, and tensile stress is retained on the outer wall. Unsuitably increasing the degree of self-reinforcement may result in fatigue failure of the outer wall prior to the inner wall. In order to select a reasonable degree of self-reinforcement, fracture mechanics theory is generally used to analyze the fatigue life of self-reinforced thick-walled cylinders. Therefore, it is important to calculate the stress intensity factor of a self-reinforced thick-walled cylinder with cracks in the outer wall.
