高平市是中华民族人文始祖神农炎帝的故里,是中国历史上著名的长平之战的发生地。1993年撤县设市,面积946平方公里,人口4835,辖16个乡(镇、办事处)。近年来,高平市坚持发展为主题、调产为主线、工业为主导、民营为主力,紧紧围绕“8431”的战略构想,全面建设六大基地,努力追赶全国百强,实现了经济和社会的持续、快速、协调、健康发展。2004年全市地区生产总值达38.16亿元,比上年增长21.5%,是1985年的19倍:财政总收入完成61518万元,增长70%,是1985年的27倍;农民人均收入3239元,增长12.4%,是1985年的7.5倍,综合经济实力位居全省第八位,是一座正在崛起,阔步迈向全面小康的新型城市。
