Founded by conductor Gaetano Merola in 1922, the San Francisco Opera is linked to his visit to the San Francisco Bay Area since 1906 and his participation in local opera productions. There is a big difference between the two cities of San Francisco and Houston, where the culture and even the social system are not as deeply rooted as the former. Today, the San Francisco Opera House is the second largest opera house in the United States (second only to the New York Metropolitan Opera House) and the grand opening of the theater’s annual opera quarter often symbolizes the opening of the city’s social quarter in San Francisco. Marathon produced the first opera “Bohemian” in September 1923 in the city’s Citizens Auditorium (Civic
