昌乐县供销社、昌乐县果品公司、昌乐县西瓜研究所等单位,从1983年开始,通过对36个杂交组合的试验对比,筛选出蜜宝×富选2号、乐蜜×富选2号两个杂交组合,分别命名为乐优1号和乐优2号。于1985年7月1日至2日通过省级鉴定。这两个西瓜品种的主要性状特点是: 1.瓜个大单瓜重一般10斤左右。1号最大瓜重16斤,2号最大瓜重18斤。
