台湾少数民族的狩猎业,在早期是主要的生产活动,也是他们的食物的主要来源。后来,粮食食物(如粟、陆稻、水稻)产量增加了,狩猎才降为次要地位,有的族群则把狩猎作为一项仪式行为,即祭祀活动的一项重要内容。 台湾岛上约有三分之二的山地被茫茫的森林所覆盖,即使海岸平原也是一片葱绿花翠,山猪、掎、鹿等野生动物资源十分丰富,为少数民族人民提供了从事狩猎活动的广阔天地,至少在明清交替之际,猎获物仍是有些族群的主要食物来源。明陈第《东番记》说:台湾“山最宜鹿,千百为群。人精用镖。……居常禁,不许私捕鹿。冬,鹿群出,则约百十人即之穷追。既及,合围裹之。镖发命中,获若丘陵。”周婴《东番记》说:“麋鹿决骤,千百成群。林涧寒肃,待(持?)镖共。镖无虚发,中多叠双。追及走险之原,穷其择音之
