Objective: To investigate the effects of different intensity exercise and estrogen on the ultrastructure of femur in ovariectomized rats. Methods: Adult female Sprague - Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal control group (SHAM), osteoporosis control group (OVX), estrogen control group (OVX + ES), moderate intensity exercise group (OVX + EX1) OVX + EX2), moderate-intensity exercise plus estrogen (OVX + ES + EX1) and high-intensity exercise plus estrogen (OVX + ES + EX2). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to observe the effects of different intensity exercise and exercise and estrogen on cancellous bone in the upper femur. Results: Compared with osteoporosis control group, the amount of femur increased in the middle-intensity exercise group and maintained a better microstructure, while there was no change in the bone mass and spatial structure in the intensive exercise group. The number of trabecular bone in the upper femur of two exercise plus estrogen groups increased more than that of the two simple exercise groups, the estrogen control group and the osteoporosis control group, the absorption surface of trabecular bone decreased, and the arrangement of collagen was regular and neat. CONCLUSIONS: Moderate-intensity exercise exerted a favorable influence on the amount of femur upper bone and the microstructure of the bone in ovariectomized rats. However, the effect of intensive exercise depends on whether estrogen is supplemented: intensive exercise on ovariectomized rats And bone structure have a positive effect, when the lack of estrogen in ovariectomized rats produce strong side effects.
