采用连续铸造技术,将黑色或有色金属直接铸成所需要的形状,以代替铸成铸锭后再轧制的传统生产方法,是多少年来令人神往的设想。然而连续铸造技术的发展却十分缓慢,这主要是因为过去大部分研制者都着眼于立式铸造机,遇到了许多难题。据报道,国外正在大力研制卧式连续铸造机。以使连续铸造技术更加发挥其优点。在这一方面,英国的Davy-Loewy公司,以及该公司后来与日本Nippon Kokan kk公司合作,已经取得了极大的成功。Davy-Loewy公司提供 Horicast卧式连续铸造机。该公司的一台双生产线卧式连续铸造机已经在日本Nippon Kokan公司投入使用,正在生产截面积为115mm~2的带材,铸造速度为3～3.5m/min;还生产截面积为75mm~2的型材,铸造速度为4m/min。Horicast卧式连续铸造机生产的铸件无弯曲现象。
