草本植物为地球上的生命提供了食物来源和栖息地,天然草地还能保护地球表层土。它们的这种能力甚至超过了农田、灌木丛和林地,所以常常被用作治理沙漠的先锋植物。它们是保持水土、防风固沙的“卫士”。它们用小小的身躯勇敢地为其他植物开辟新土地,面对风沙,沉着应战。“穿靴子”的三芒草三芒草因种子前面有三根细细的芒而得名。三芒草种子成熟后,在很小的风力下就能升腾而起,三根芒就像小小的螺旋桨,带着种子飞到很远很远的地方。一旦遇到合适的环境,三根芒又变成了钻头,旋转着钻进沙子里,种子便就地安下了家。
