杨家埠木版年画起源于明代,发展繁荣于清代,至清代中后期达到画店百家,画种逾千,画版过万的鼎盛时期。杨家埠年画题材广泛、内容丰富,在流传至今的500余幅年画样稿中,戏曲故事年画就占了约一半左右,成为杨家埠年画的重要组成部分。杨家埠的戏曲故事年画,取材于宋元话本、明清传奇、戏曲剧目、民间说唱等,内容丰富、形式多样。程砚秋在《寒亭的年画》一文中说:“戏曲年画,多取材于戏剧,戏剧年画中又可分
