《长江中游地区文明进程研究》2014年由科学出版社出版,该书52.9万字,共分绪论及正文五章,对马克思主义国家起源理论作了重新认识,尤其是对“文明”一词及国家本质的理解,对中国上古的“氏”“族”与“氏族公社”的“氏族”的区分;对长江中游地区部分文化的年代作了新的研究,并提前了几百年;将该地文明进程划为原始社会末期的酋邦,国家时期的城邦、霸国、王国、帝国等几个阶段;对传说史作了重新梳理,并且分清了天帝与人帝;将长江中游地区的文明进程置于全中国乃至世界进行考察与对比以显现其重要的地位。
