机枪的供弹机构通常包括供弹具、输弹机构和进弹机构。供弹具可分为弹仓和弹链两大类。弹仓可分为弹匣、弹盘及弹鼓式供弹具,而弹链一般装入弹盒或弹箱中,可分为柔性、刚性和半刚性3种。由麻或棉织带制成的闭式弹链称为柔性弹链,又称帆布式弹带。由薄金属板冲制出抱弹部而成的整体弹链称为刚性弹链,又称弹板。由单个金属链节组合而成的弹链称为半刚性弹链。半刚性弹链按联结方式分为不可散弹链、可散弹链及组合式弹链3种。
