It has just finished its journey in the 1980s and world history has entered the last decade of the 20th century - the 1990s. In the 1980s, the average annual growth rate of the Asia-Pacific region’s economy continued to be higher than that of other regions; its position in the world economy was further enhanced. In the 1990s, the economy in the Asia Pacific region will maintain its relatively strong growth momentum and will remain the most dynamic and attractive part of the world economy. The economic rise in the Asia-Pacific region is having a significant impact on the changes in the world economic pattern. By the late 1990s, the world economy will form a pattern dominated by the three major centers in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
