On April 26, 2013, Francois-Henri Pinault, the representative of the French Pino family who visited China with French President Hollande, announced the voluntary donation of Chinese bronze rat heads and rabbits lost overseas. The return of lost cultural relics would have been a good thing, but Christopher Auction, a Pino-owned holding that auctioned both artifacts, at almost the same time announced the auction license in China. So these two news were linked naturally, triggering a lot of controversy inside and outside the industry. Pino family has the world’s third-largest luxury goods group PPR, under its Gucci (Gucci), Puma (Puma) and other famous brands in China, a wide range of business. PPR also owns 100% of Christie’s, the world’s leading auction house, through its holding company, Groupe Artemis S.A.
