The photoisomerisation of three β-diketones was studied and their ability to generate singlet oxygen after light irradiation was determined. The ability of such compounds to produce singlet oxygen is directly proportional to their ability to be isomerized into keto structures by light, so any system that is susceptible to photoketalization can act as a photosensitizer and not readily react with it As a light stabilizer.
