As with literary translation practice, literary translation criticism is often manipulated by ideology. This article takes Lin Shu as a case study, focusing on the reasons why Lin Shu and Lin’s novels before and after the New Culture Movement suffered a steep decline in reputation and criticism from other critics. It is expected that readers can make a more objective judgment on Lin Shu and his translations when they make up for the lack of microcosmic cases and further realize that there is a close relationship between translation and politics. Therefore, it is necessary to deepen the study of political aspects of translation.
