A new method for preparing iron-doped PAN carbon fiber was proposed. The effect of iron on the thermal behavior of carbon fiber was studied. The effect of iron on the thermal behavior of carbon fiber was also discussed. The results showed that the content of elemental iron in PAN carbon fiber prepared by impregnating Fe2 (SO4) 3 / DMSO solution into primary fiber was more than 0.26%, which was uniform in fiber cross section. The effect of iron on the thermal stability of carbon fibers is related to the thermal history of carbon fibers. The thermal stability of the iron-infiltrated carbon fibers heat-treated at above 1700 ℃ is higher than that of the carbon fibers heat-treated at 2200 ℃. Meanwhile, iron has a concentration effect on the thermal stability of carbon fibers. When the concentration of iron in carbon fibers is above 49 μg / g, the thermal oxidation resistance of carbon fibers decreases with the increase of iron concentration. The study also shows that iron can reduce the C1s Fermi level on the PAN carbon fiber surface, thereby improving the thermal oxidation resistance of carbon fiber.
