This study created a new area of research on viral etiology of adult respiratory infection, increased the diagnostic rate of clinical etiology, provided a new treatment for clinical practice, and avoided the abuse of antibiotics. Three kinds of light microscopy immunohistochemistry and two kinds of electron microscopy were used to detect respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in nasopharyngeal exfoliated cells of adult respiratory infection and normal subjects.
