The history of the nationalities and the administrative regions obscure the richness and diversity of the history of Tianshan Mountains. This narrative model of “nationality - state” made “Tianshan history” a local expression of national history. Matsuda Shioman applied the method of historical geography and paid attention to the human-land relationship in the Tianshan region. It demonstrated the interaction between the two major lifestyles in the Tianshan oasis and grassland, and the role of the “heart of Asia” between China Unicom’s east-west trade and north-south exchanges.
