人们习惯上乐于将美利坚民族视为西方近代拜金主义的渊薮、资本主义腐朽社会的典型代表,认定这是个重物质轻精神、执著于感官享受而忽略了心灵需求的民族。其实,这是我们对美国文化的一种误会,一旦我们真正地深入其内核之中时,不能不被某种人类精神文化中的奇葩所打动。在此,我想着重剖析美国精神中的牛仔文化,捐赠与审美,巧克力文化以及美国大学的思想。
People are accustomed to regard the American nation as the profound source of Western modern money-worship and the typical representative of the decadent society of capitalism. They have determined that this is a nation characterized by light materialism and dedication to sensuality while ignoring the spiritual needs. In fact, this is a misunderstanding of American culture. Once we have really gone deep into its inner core, we can not but be impressed by the wonderful work of a certain kind of human spiritual culture. Here, I would like to focus on analyzing the cowboy culture, the donation and aestheticism, the chocolate culture, and the thinking of American universities in the American spirit.
