About 1,600 He-Ne laser acupuncture devices sold in Europe by the Advanced Technology Division of Bochum Blommert GmbH in West Germany are used. The Akuplas HLW instrument emits a laser beam to the skin of a patient through fiber optics and a probe. Conductive devices around the tip of the probe measure the electrical resistance of the skin to initially probe the correct irradiation spot and then irradiate this spot to create a stimulus that was previously acupunctured by the needle.According to the company’s product manager El Raschel ( Heidi Erlacher said several such devices have been sold in China, where acupuncture is fairly common, and sold in Japan and South Korea, many of which are used in China
