端粒作为一种生物钟,决定着细胞的增殖能力和细胞寿命。细胞每分裂一次,端粒DNA就会缩短一次,直至缩短到一定程度而终止分裂走向衰亡。同时,端粒酶则可以延伸端粒DNA来维持细胞的分裂能力。G-四联体是端粒DNA存在的一种特殊结构,可以有效阻止端粒酶与端粒相结合延伸端粒的过程。因此,只要促进G-四联体的形成或维持G-四联体的结构稳定就可以起到端粒酶抑制剂的作用,从而加速肿瘤细胞的凋亡。
