通过计算机的购置及管理实践,笔者认为在成人高校内,计算机的亏率较普遍地存在.计算机的亏率,是指计算机的功能由于应用或开发不充分而未发挥效率的部分.例如:学生上课操作使用的计算机386/DX型基本能满足教学要求,但有的学校为了追求高档,却配备586型计算机,而较粗浅的教学内容不能充分发挥高档次计算机的效能,这就造成了亏率.又例如:订购计算机之前,在没有明确该机应完成什么任务,有多大工作量和数据量,就盲目配备光驱等多媒体设备,使万元以上的高科技信息产品沦为电影放映机或游戏机,不能充分发挥计算机图像、声音、通讯处理的功能,这也造成了亏率.再例如:计算机的使用者由于只会操作,不懂应用,使一台能进行文字、数据、图形处理的计算机仅发挥其中很小的文字处理功能,更是广泛存在的亏率.
