自动变速器操作简单省力,运行平稳,在一定范围内能实现无级变速,能自动适应车速和行车阻力的变化。具有提高汽车的动力性和燃油经济性等优点。但自动变速器结构复杂,零件精密度高,造成维修困难。在遇到自动变速器故障时不能轻易解体,首先进行常规检查分析,然后通过自动变速器试验重现故障现象再进行故障分析排除。自动变速器试验有失速试验、迟滞试验、油压试验和道路试验等。
