山东机器局系洋务军用工业中具有一定代表性的省办中型军事工业。它是时任山东巡抚的丁宝桢于1875年11月开始筹建的。其从1875年底开始试产,于1877年初正式开工制造。然而由于清政府财政拮据和某些官员的反对,山东机器局的发展较为迟缓,规模较小。只有李秉衡在位期间,山东机器局在内部生产及外在规制上方有了质的飞跃,从而跻身于当时国内颇有影响力的军事工业之列,为晚清时期军工生产做出了巨大贡献。
Shandong Machinery Bureau of Westernization military industry has a representative of the province of medium-sized military industry. It was when Ding Baozhen, the governor of Shandong, began planning construction in November 1875. It started trial production from the end of 1875 and was officially started manufacture in early 1877. However, due to the financial constraints of the Qing government and opposition from some officials, the development of Shandong Machinery Bureau was relatively slow and small in scale. Only during the reign of Li Bing-heng, Shandong Machinery Bureau made a qualitative leap in internal production and external regulation, thus becoming one of the most influential military industries in China at that time, making a tremendous contribution to military production in the late Qing Dynasty.
