The δ-globin peptide chain only plays a minor role in the beta chain of most higher primates hemoglobin. Because of the tight linkage of δ and β-globin peptide chains, Ingram and Boyer et al. Argue that the higher primates’ δ and β genes originate from the same gene during replication. However, the exception of the Eastern Hemisphere monkeys is due to the absence of δ-peptide chains in their globin peptide chains. The author of this paper made restriction enzyme digestion analysis of DNA and found that all the hemispheres had δ gene present in the DNA of the hemispheres but no δ polypeptide was detected in the hemoglobins of these monkeys. In order to further explore the origin and function inactivation of δ gene in different germ line, the author will be two distantly related Eastern Hemisphere
