Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) is a group of extracellular secretory signaling polypeptides. TGF-β signaling is mainly mediated by receptors on the membrane and Smad molecules in the membrane. Recent studies confirm that, TGF-β and ventricular structural remodeling and electrical remodeling are closely related. The effect of TGF-β on the remodeling of ventricular structure is mainly manifested in the promotion of hypertrophy of cardiac myocytes, the increase of extracellular matrix synthesis and the degradation of matrix, resulting in the change of tissue fibrosis. However, limited studies have shown that TGF-β may influence the electrical remodeling of the ventricular myocardium by regulating the calcium content of sarcoplasmic reticulum and the frequency and amplitude of changes in sarcoplasmic reticulum, thereby slowing down the peak time of transient Ca2 + influx and the rate of decay.
