(Velocity Anisotropy of shales andDepth Anomalies in the North sea)Niranjan C.Banik,Gulf Research &Development Co (S20.1)
Velocity Anisotropy of Shales and Depth Anomalies in the North Sea Niranjan C. Banik, Gulf Research & Development Co (S20.1) Conflicts between seismic and logging depths in the North Sea Was used to study the anisotropy of subsurface velocities. The correlation between the shale series (thickness and depth) obtained from the measurements of 21 wells between Norway and the United Kingdom and the resulting anomalies is excellent. The measured anisotropy is also consistent with previous laboratory measurements of shale core samples. Anisotropy can be measured by comparing the depth of the seismic standard with the logging depth and by comparing the stacking velocity with continuous acoustic logging data. The formula adapted to the ellipsoid anisotropy is used to mention
