马克思主义经典作家揭示出，资本主义生产方式及其生产关系和交换关系的特点就在于它的世界性，当今经济全球化的趋势，从根本上说仍是资本主义经济世界化的进一步发展和延伸；经济全球化作为国际分工和国际交换发展的结果，是世界经济发展的一般趋势；但是由资本主义首先推动的全球化本质上就是推广以资本为基础的生产方式 (当然，内容和组织形式上是不断变化的 )；经济全球化的领导权仍掌握在发达资本主义国家手中；中国应对其二重性质保持全面的认识，争取国家和民族的独立利益，理性融入经济全球化。
