自序余自幼性好读书,尤好中国古典文字。惜时值“文革”乱世,求书不易,只得百般搜寻,不遗余力。曾手抄《诗经选》、《宋词选》、《唐诗三百首》,背诵《汉语成语小辞典》,于旧书堆里寻出《史记选读》,以“批儒”之名而读《论语》,借“评法”之机而读荀子、柳宗元。兴趣在唐诗宋词,尤喜汉赋之丽则壮美。不过当时年少,阅历甚浅,基础浅薄,似懂非懂。后入大学读书,再以后专事学术,致力于西洋哲学与历史研究,而与古典文字渐行渐远。然中国古典文字的隽永、艳丽、空灵、简约和秀美,始终眷恋而流连。回归古典,是一个梦想。

However, the Chinese classical words meaningful, beautiful, ethereal, simple and beautiful, always attached and linger. Returning to the classical, is a dream.
