大约5.7亿年前,也就是地质学家所说的寒武纪之初,绝大多数无脊椎动物门类在几百万年间如雨后春笋般涌现。在地质学史上,几百万年只是一瞬间。这显然是进化史上的一次质变,一次飞跃。就好比一个士兵一生中大多数时间都是在平静乏味中度过的,偶尔才有那么几次惊心动魄的战争经历。寒武纪大爆发就是地球生命历史上的这么一次惊心动魄的战争场面。现在的问题在于,是什么原因造成了这么一次大爆发?
About 570 million years ago, which was what geologists called the Cambrian era, the vast majority of invertebrate species have sprung up in the millions of years. In the history of geology, millions of years are just moments. This is obviously a qualitative change in the evolutionary history, a leap forward. It is as if a soldier spends most of his life in calm and boring life. Occasionally, he has had several thrilling war experiences.
