打通煤田属于上二迭系龙潭组,煤系地层由泥岩、砂岩、炭质泥岩、铝土岩及石灰岩等组成.煤系全厚70—33米,含煤共19层,可采和局部可采者仅四层,由上至下为6~#层厚0.7米,7~#层厚1.1米,8~#层厚2.7米,11~#层厚0.7米.6~#7~#层间距为6米左右,属近距煤层,同时开采.本井田为隐伏状背斜构造的近水平煤层.解理、裂隙、小断层和煤系上部嘉陵江灰岩的卡斯特地层相当发育.煤层埋藏深度120—300米.矿井为超级瓦斯矿,有煤与瓦斯突出危险.
