为了在基本上闡明渤海湾泥沙运动的規律和特征,弄清塘沽新港泥沙的来源,为減輕新港洄淤措施提供有力的依据,洄淤研究站、中国科学院海洋研究所与华东师范大学、北京大学、北京师范大学等单位合作,組織了渤海湾动力地貌調查队,在全长350公里海岸綫的范围內,进行了陸上近岸带地貌、第四紀地貭調查,編制了渤海近岸地带五万分之一地貌詳图,并在上述岸綫所包围的海区内,进行了水文、地貌的昼夜连续观測,先后参加这一工作的共有16个单位,70人。根据初步分析結果,他們认为黃河是新港泥沙的主要来源。根据以上有关渤海湾的水文动力和地貭地貌等方面的初步分析,已得到了渤海湾泥沙运动的一个初步的較为清晰的概念,并且从各个方面都可以初步地說明,黄河輸出的泥沙是造成新港附近海区淤积的主要
