１８三体综合征又称Ｅｄｗａｒｄ综合征，是Ｅｄｗａｒｄ等于１９６０年首先发现此症患者核型中Ｅ组染色体多一条。１９６１年Ｐａｔａｕ和１９６４年Ｙｕｎｉｓ先后证实这多出的为１８号，始定名为１８三体综合征。此症临床上虽不多见，但发病率却是仅次于Ｄｏｗｎ′ｓ染色体
