Culture-loaded expressions in literary works are difficult to translate. This paper studies the translation of culture-loaded expressions in The Border Town and compares the translation of Gladys Yang with that of Ching Ti and Robert Payne. Through the analysis of different translation strategies and methods employed by the translators, the paper discusses the merits and demerits of the two translations in terms of the effective transfer of Chinese culture to Western readers.
