矶崎新1931年出生,1961年完成东京大学建筑学博士课程。1967年获日本建筑学会到达奖,自此成为几十年来活跃在国际建筑界的大师,获奖频频。其作品多为大型公共建筑,设计风格尤以创新、有气魄著称。矶崎新的作品包括:美术馆、艺术馆、歌剧院、天文台、办公大楼和居住区。他近几年设计了大量作品,尤以美国佛罗里达州迪斯尼总部大楼、日本京都音乐厅、日本奈良百年纪念馆、美国俄亥俄21世纪科学纪念馆、意大利佛罗伦萨时尚纪念、日本群马天文台、中国大剧院方案竞赛等最为著名。2002-2004年间曾数次受邀到青岛。
