A brief review of recent research in Japan will be made in the following areas: large field polarizers, stress-freezing and molecular theory, three-dimensional photoelasticity including astigmatism, photoplasticity and birefringent coatings. In the photoelastic studies of modern Japanese industry, large field polarizers are usually required. This article discusses the fundamentals of large-field lens design and publishes the actual technique of making mica-based quarter-wave plates of 200 mm in diameter and 500 mm in diameter based on our own experience. In addition, a description is given of a photoelectric method for inspecting a quarter-wave plate. The mechanical and optical linearity of the following three polymers has been studied from the molecular point of view: condensation, polymerization and addition reaction polymers. Found super
