近年来,海峡两岸有关中国近现代军事史的出版物中,在涉及汤恩伯时,有一引人注目处,即关于汤的生卒年的记载,众说纷纭,莫衷一是。汤恩伯原籍浙江省武义县,系国民党军界要员之一。曾与陈诚、胡宗南同为蒋介石手下的三员宠将,显赫一时,是中国现代军事史上不可或缺的人物。大陆解放前夕,败退台湾,后病逝于日本。对于汤之生卒年,从目前所能见到的两岸图书资料看,约有下列几种不同说法:
