作为中国近代史上第一批走出国门睁眼看世界的中国人,张德彝前后八次出洋,旅居海外27年。他对“国家以教务、学问为重”的认识格外深刻,他对西方文化教育,特别是对近代西方教育资源的丰富性、教育受众的普及性、教学内容的多样性,都做了全面而深刻的观察和考量,他的这些认识有力的推动了近代中国科技文化教育层面的西学东渐。
