大英帝国的瓦解已是铁一般的事实,但评论员认为这是英国的愿意退出太阳下地盘政策,并吹嘘英国对旧殖民地统治的成绩;其意好象是说英国过去对殖民地没有什么残酷剥削行为;英国殖民地应当感谢它的殖民统治。这是什么话!评论员又硬说苏联和中国有成为“帝国主义”国家的可能性,这更是恶意诬蔑。《泰晤士报文学增刊》评论员的意见在英国统治阶层里是有一定代表性的,所以这篇殖民主义垂死阶段时的狂妄辩护还是值得我们留意的。
