中国科学院遗传研究所正式成立于1959年9月25日。在这之前,最早叫“中国科学院遗传选种实验馆”,创建于1951年7月,馆长是乐天字同志。1952年9月改称“中国科学院遗传栽培研究室”,室主任为冯兆林教授。1956年改名为“遗传研究室”,祖德明教授兼任室主任,冯兆林教授为副主任,行政上隶属于中国科学院植物研究所。1959年9月25日,经国家科委批准,遗传研究室与动物研究所的遗传组合并,成立
