Objective To detect telomere length of peripheral blood in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to explore its relationship with clinicopathological factors. Methods The relative telomere length of peripheral blood DNA was measured by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR in 136 non-small cell lung cancer patients, 140 pulmonary benign disease patients and 145 healthy controls (control group). Results The telomere length of peripheral blood DNA of lung cancer patients was shorter than that of control group and benign lung disease group (P <0.05). The telomere length of peripheral blood DNA of lung cancer patients was related to the histological type and clinical stage of lung cancer P <0.05). Conclusion The shorter telomere length of peripheral blood DNA may be an early biomarker of non-small cell lung cancer.
