Facts speak louder than words. In the 13 years since China embarked on the path of reform and opening up pioneered in 1978, its pace of progress has steadily become more steady. The achievements made by China have also won wide acclaim from the international community. Over the past thirteen years, the Chinese people, with their economic construction as the central task, have focused on resolving major issues concerning the overall situation of reform and opening up as well as the modernization drive. The Chinese economy and social life have undergone a series of historical changes with a marked increase in overall national strength.
