赛珍珠(Pearl S.Buck,1892-1973)是20世纪美国文学史上颇有争议的女性作家之一。赛珍珠出生于美国,三个月就来到了中国,在中国生活了40多年。她不仅是位优秀的女作家,而且她的一生从事许多有意义的活动,十分关注女性生存的命运,她倡导男女平等,争取女性应有的权利,呼吁女性投身于社会事业,自身价值得到实现。赛珍珠不仅自己亲身担任着女性主义运动的角色,而她的作品《大地》中的阿兰和《群芳亭》中的吴太太等人物都代表女性主义意识发展所经历的阶段。
Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) is one of the most controversial female writers in the history of American literature in the 20th century. Pearl was born in the United States, came to China in three months, lived in China for more than 40 years. She is not only a good woman writer, but also has many meaningful activities throughout her life. She is very concerned about the fate of women’s existence. She advocates equality between men and women and strives for women’s rights. She appeals to women to engage themselves in social undertakings and achieve their own values . Pearl S. Buck not only personally assumed the role of the feminist movement, but her works “Alan” in “The Earth” and Mrs. Wu in “Qunfang Pavilion” all represented the stage of the development of feminist consciousness.
