随着现代科学技术的飞跃发展,计算机信息处理事业取得了长足的进步。国际标准化组织信息处理系统技术委员会委托字符集与编码分技术委员会负责研制多八位编码字符集,将世界各地目前使用的文字汇成一个字符集,制定通用的交换代码。该字符集适用于以计算机为基础的国际间多文种信息处理与信息交换。建立统一汉字字符集,是中国方面最近提出的方案。
With the rapid development of modern science and technology, computer information processing has made great strides. The Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization’s Information Processing System entrusts the character set and coding sub-technical committee to develop a multi-octet coded character set, and to combine the presently used texts all over the world into a single character set to formulate a common exchange code. This character set is suitable for computer-based international multicultural information processing and information exchange. The establishment of a unified Chinese character set is a program recently proposed by China.
