Mouse infected with Plasmodium berghei Plasmodium berghei mouse erythrocyte lipid peroxide product MDA content multiplied compared with the control animals in vitro experiments found that infected animal erythrocytes, especially erythrocytes infected with free radical system (Fe ~ (2+ ), H_2O_2) is more sensitive to lipid peroxidation. Infected animal erythrocyte MDA content and the severity of anemia was significantly negative correlation; vitamin E treatment significantly inhibited infected animals plasma and erythrocyte MDA content, significantly reduce the degree of anemia. The experimental results suggest that P. falciparum damages the antioxidant capacity of the host erythrocytes and promotes their lipid peroxidation, which may be of importance in the pathogenesis of erythrocyte injury during malaria.
