This article describes an external rotor permanent magnet motor for a hybrid electric vehicle. The permanent magnet motor is directly connected to the engine shaft and its rated point is determined by engine operating characteristics. The design uses advanced time-varying electromagnetic field finite element analysis to determine its saturation parameters.
