埃米莉一生短暂,生活阅历和创作经验极其有限,和同时代诗人相比,她的诗歌主要取材于小山村和虚构的贡达拉王国,没有波澜壮阔的历史画卷和广阔的社会图景,缺乏现实社会的广度和深度,然而其诗歌平淡之中却涌流着炽热的感情、深刻的人生体悟和人性的洞察。在诗艺技术上,她既继承了浪漫主义前辈回归自然、托物言情的做法,又推进了内心挖掘的细度和深度。在意象运用上,她比浪漫主义前辈更具个性,倾向于多元化、集群化和两极对立。在创作手法上,突破前辈或同时代作家在消极性、浪漫性和现实性等方面的单一向度,而具有三者融合的特点,从而更接近现代主义和后现代主义。
