The development of electronic technology makes it possible for the engine control system (EMS) to generate more functions. As functions increase, the number of sensors and actuators used in automobiles also increases, so Bosch technicians think it is necessary to use microelectronics to further reduce the size and weight of the components. The company’s MotronicME7 engine control system (expected to come on-stream in 1999) is the best example of this research and will use micromachining and micro-hybrid technology.
